This audio essay is an ode to a plant found in the the midwest underbellies of Kansas’ forests, the pawpaw fruit.
This audio essay was originally produced in a fall 2023 graduate seminar titled “Civic Engagement and Community-Based Pedagogies.” I collected field soundscapes during the writing process and used Audacity to edit the audio.
Many thanks to my mother, Tammy Bruegger, and Kansas City chef, Michael Corvino for your stories in this essay.
